Settleable substances are undissolved wastewater constituents, both in an organic and inorganic form. They are present in the wastewater in suspended form.
They can be separated from the wastewater by sedimentation. This process takes place in sand filter or primary clarifier.
The measurement of settleable substances in the wastewater takes place in an Imhoff funnel (ml/l) and is determined after 2 hours settling time. This measure informs about the proportion of solids and mechanical removal performance of wastewater treatment plant.
